Our team downed tools at our Headley Chase development for a dedicated morning to mark World Mental Health Day, giving colleagues time to pause, connect and start important conversations about mental health.
Held on 8th October ahead of World Mental Health Day on 10th October, the event brought together around 50 of our colleagues, from site teams to people across the wider business. We also offered workers that all-important breakfast roll and coffee from Monster Foods, based in East Grinstead, helping to create an informal setting for everyone to catch up and check in with one another.
The event also marked our new charity partnership with Mates in Mind, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing across the construction industry.
With a particular focus on construction, Mates in Mind is a UK charity that raises awareness, improves understanding and helps workplaces implement effective interventions to address stigma around mental ill-health. The get-together created space for colleagues to connect, check in with one another and help normalise talking about mental health - an issue that can often go unspoken in fast-paced, high-pressure working environments.
Our Construction Director, Chris Bysouth, who helped bring the event to life on site, said: “Construction is built on teamwork, and that includes looking out for each other, not just on safety, but on how we’re doing day to day. Taking time to down tools, have a coffee and some breakfast, and start conversations sends a clear message: it’s okay to talk, and support is there. We’re proud to partner with Mates in Mind and to play our part in making wellbeing everyone’s business.”
Laura Howdill, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Mates in Mind, added, "We're incredibly grateful to Elivia Homes for choosing to partner with Mates in Mind. Partnerships like this enable us to continue supporting organisations and individuals across the UK with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to improve mental health in the workplace. Their contribution will help us continue improving workplace mental health and wellbeing, including vital suicide prevention awareness and support."
Our partnership with Mates in Mind will include ongoing awareness activity and employee engagement designed to help create a culture where people feel able to speak openly and seek support when they need it.
