Stuart, Fleur and Coco the Toy Poodle have quickly settled into their new life at The Woodlands in Sayers Common. After almost two decades of renting, the feeling of finally having a home of their own is still sinking in.
“We still have to pinch ourselves after nearly 20 years of renting and effectively living in other people's homes, this is ours,” said Stuart.
The couple were no strangers to the village of Sayers Common, with Fleur having worked in The Duke of York pub and the pair often enjoying a pub lunch there with her parents. Stuart and Fleur already knew that they enjoyed the area. So, when they began looking for their first home together, it seemed like an obvious place to start.
Having visited several new-build developments by other homebuilders, the couple knew they wanted the convenience of a new home, without the time and expense associated with renovation and repairs. It was only when they drove onto The Woodlands site at Easter this year, that they knew they had found the right place.
Stuart added: “We loved the quality of the finish, the exclusive feel of the development, the generous parking. We are delighted with the plot we were able to choose too.”
A home that fits their lifestyle
For Fleur and Stuart, finding a home of their own has given them the freedom and space to create somewhere that works around their lifestyle.
Both are fitness enthusiasts and have made the most of their newfound space by creating a home gym, giving them the flexibility to exercise whenever it suits them.
The activities don’t stop there either. Walks with Coco have also levelled up. The couple have discovered a number of rural walking routes close to home, including walks to the local pub – which Coco is particularly fond of.
“It’s lovely having so much countryside on our doorstep and being able to just head out for a walk together. Coco is certainly loving the freedom just as much as we are,” said Fleur.
Making life and commuting easier
Although the move has taken Stuart and Fleur slightly further from some family members, they remain within easy reach of their loved ones, while the area's transport links have made commuting straightforward.
Fleur travels to London up to twice a week and has found the journey much easier since moving to The Woodlands, giving her the best of both worlds - a peaceful home surrounded by countryside, while still being able to reach the capital when needed.
Forging friendships and community
The couple have also quickly become part of life at The Woodlands, with friendly neighbours helping them settle in and a popular residents’ WhatsApp group providing an easy way for people across the development to stay connected.
“We’ve found everyone to be incredibly lovely and helpful,” said Stuart.
With The Woodlands continuing to grow, the couple are looking forward to meeting more of their future neighbours and seeing the community develop around them.
A new legacy
For Stuart and Fleur, their move to The Woodlands represents much more than simply buying their first home. It marks the beginning of an important new chapter in their lives.
Following the sad loss of Stuart’s mother, his share of her estate helped make it possible for the couple to take the step from renting into homeownership.
“Without a doubt, my mother’s legacy has helped us form the next chapter in our lives.”
