In the living room, a generous corner sofa is complemented by two armchairs, creating plenty of space for people to come together. A bespoke window seat has also been incorporated into the bay window, adding another comfortable seating area while making full use of the room’s proportions.
Joanne Davies-Jones at Abode explains: “We carefully considered how each space could work harder without compromising on comfort or flow. In the living room the bay makes the most of every inch because there’s always room for one more when friends and family come over.”
This balance between practicality and design continues in the open-plan kitchen and dining room. While a large dining table may have restricted movement through the space, Abode instead introduced a banquette dining nook.
The result is an inviting place for family meals, informal breakfasts or catching up with friends, without interrupting the natural flow of the kitchen.
A home designed to work harder
The study provided another opportunity to show how bespoke furniture can help a room fulfil its potential. Its generous dimensions allowed Abode to create a wall-to-wall desk with enough room for two people to work comfortably alongside one another.
Whether used as a shared home office, a quiet homework space or somewhere to manage everyday family life, the room feels purposeful without becoming cluttered.

“A well-planned space will always feel better than one that is simply beautifully decorated,” says Joanne.
“Consider how you use each room day to day and how you will move through it. Getting the layout right from the start means you’ll spend less time rearranging furniture later.”

Plot 1 benefits from an abundance of natural light, which allowed Abode to introduce a richer, darker palette with confidence.
Rather than making the rooms feel heavy, the deeper tones give the scheme a warm, cocooning quality. Layered textures, softer finishes and carefully positioned lighting balance the palette, ensuring the interiors continue to feel bright and welcoming.
Lighting is particularly important when creating this sense of warmth. Abode recommends combining practical overhead lighting with table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights to establish different moods throughout the day. Warm-toned bulbs can also help make a room feel more relaxed and comfortable.
A statement main bedroom
One of Abode’s favourite features is found in the main bedroom, where a bespoke layered headboard creates a strong focal point.
Set against the wallpaper, interlocking wooden panelling introduces texture and architectural interest, while the upholstered section adds softness and comfort. Combining the different finishes gives the room depth and character, while helping the separate elements of the scheme feel connected.
Joanne adds: “Together, the wooden panelling and upholstered headboard create a warm, inviting focal point that brings the whole room together.”

For anyone beginning an interior design project, Abode recommends first developing a clear vision of how the finished home should feel. Inspiration gathered from magazines, Pinterest and favourite places can be brought together in a moodboard, helping to establish a consistent direction.
Careful measuring is equally important. Checking the dimensions of rooms and furniture before buying anything helps avoid expensive mistakes and prevents spaces from feeling overcrowded.
Abode also advises homeowners to design for longevity rather than following trends too closely. While current styles can provide inspiration, choosing furniture and finishes that reflect your own tastes will create a home that continues to feel relevant and personal.
