Sustainable progress: Elivia Homes builds on green success with second year of Planet Mark Certification

News | 5 Aug 2025

Premium southeast housebuilder Elivia Homes is proud to announce that it has achieved Planet Mark Business Certification for the second year in a row - a significant milestone in its sustainability journey and a demonstration of continued, measurable progress.

The Planet Mark Business Certification is an internationally recognised sustainability accreditation, built on a robust three-step process: measuring impact, engaging staff and communicating progress, with members committing to annual carbon reduction targets.

The accreditation came following an assessment of Elivia’s sustainable performance throughout 2024, in which it achieved a 24% reduction in its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and made contributions toward nine of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the impact of its commitment to sustainability. As part of this process, Planet Mark calculated the carbon footprint of Elivia’s offices, covering emissions from electricity, transmission and distribution losses, fleet, business travel, water and waste.

Achieving certification for a second consecutive year reflects Elivia’s consistent commitment to reducing its environmental impact and building a more sustainable future. This accreditation demonstrates the homebuilder’s ambition to lead the sector in sustainable development, going further than many of its SME peers.

Chris Chiles, CEO at Elivia Homes, comments: “Achieving Planet Mark Business Certification is a commitment to continuous improvement and meaningful action. Being certified for a second year means that we as a business are continuing to take the right and necessary steps towards a meaningful reduction in carbon emissions, at a critical time for our planet.”

“We are dedicated to reducing our carbon emissions each year to fulfil our pledge not only to reduce our impact on the planet, but to create sustainable and thriving communities, where our homeowners can continue on this journey with us to live more efficiently.”

Steve Malkin, CEO and Founder at Planet Mark, adds: “We are delighted that Elivia Homes has been a Planet Mark Certified Business for two years having achieved a 24% reduction to its Scope 1 and 2 emissions using a market-based methodology in its last reporting year. It’s fantastic that through achieving certification, the developer is also contributing towards nine of the UN’s SDGs. We look forward to seeing how Elivia Homes progresses in its measurement and carbon reduction journey, having taken the best first step towards net zero.”

Backed by Octopus Investments, a B-Corp accredited company, Elivia has been an early adopter of Low and Zero Carbon (LZC) technologies. Many of its developments across the Home Counties boast sustainable features including timer frame construction, air source heat pumps, EV charging points, photovoltaic panels, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems and wastewater heat recovery.

The regional homebuilder has a history of outpacing existing building regulations and embracing modern construction methods, with 80% of its current production using sustainable timber frame, further reducing its carbon footprint and minimising waste onsite.
