Sustainable Success: Elivia Homes achieves Planet Mark Business Certification

5 Jun 2024

Elivia Homes is marking this week’s World Environment Day (5th June) with the announcement that it has achieved the Planet Mark Business Certification, an internationally recognised sustainability accreditation, with brands such as Volvo, Samsung and ISG onboard.

Planet Mark’s Business Certification covers a robust three-step process; measuring impact, engaging staff and communicating progress, with members committing to set annual carbon reduction targets.

This accreditation demonstrates Elivia’s ambitions to become a sustainability trailblazer for the sector, going further and faster than many of its SME peers. It also acknowledges that the homebuilder is actively contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Climate Action.

Prior to awarding the certification, Planet Mark calculated the carbon footprint of Elivia’s three offices including emissions from electricity, transmission and distribution losses, fleet, business travel, and waste. It covers Scope 1, 2 and specific Scope 3 emissions, including operational waste and business travel.

Certification with Planet Mark is based on Elivia’s long-term commitment to delivering energy efficient sustainable homes; a continuous improvement approach across its business operations, involving measurement of its carbon emissions, as well as engaging staff, suppliers and other partners to identify and implement initiatives aimed at reducing emissions.

Kamal Singh Grewal, COO at Elivia Homes, comments: “The Planet Mark Business Certification adds further weight to our ambition to be a protagonist in the evolution of a sustainable homebuilding sector. We will achieve this by being environmentally conscious in design, build and legacy at every development, as well as reducing the operational impact at our three regional offices.

“The certification brings with it the impetus to engage our colleagues and supply chain, unlocking their invaluable expertise to drive year on year progress. We will continue to develop our contribution towards the UN SDGs, adding to the areas where we can make positive and lasting impact.

“We are dedicated to reducing our carbon emissions each year to fulfil our pledge of creating thriving communities that can enjoy elegant, energy-efficient homes”

Backed by Octopus Investments, a B-Corp accredited company, Elivia has been an early adopter of Low and Zero Carbon (LZC) technologies. Many of its developments across the Home Counties boast sustainable features, including air source heat pumps, EV charging points, photovoltaic panels, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems and wastewater heat recovery.

The regional homebuilder has a history of outpacing existing building regulations and embracing modern construction methods, with 74% of its current production using sustainable timber frame, further reducing its carbon footprint and minimising waste onsite.
